Chef Rocco DiSpirito announced on Rachel Ray's show today that Shirataki noodles are a must-try food.

"These are noodles that have no carbs and no calories!" DiSpirito announced. The pasta is made by using flour made from the konnyaku imo root. MiracleNoodle.com, which sells Shirataki noodles, claims that Asians have been eating the noodle for "thousands of years," and that the noodle readily absorbs the flavor of any spices or ingredients added in while cooking.

Rocco DiSpirito urged dieting consumers to buy into Shirataki noodles to help out in their diets. And while this seems like a fantastic food for the dieting (or anorexic), I couldn't help noticing that the Shirataki noodles run for about $2.30/oz, or $37 a pound.

Do you think carb-free, calorie-free Shirataki noodles are worth that much money?

are a waste of space. I eat food so I don't starve. Too much has been made about dieting and looking good, when really all we need is a baseline of essential nutrients. Paying that much money for something that's not even doing its job as a food? Not worth it.

Why do they cost so much? Just because they have no calories? Is there any way to get them cheaper? I wonder if they are cheaper in Mexico. A lot of other things are cheaper there, like medications, etc and many people go there for cheaper medical care, aurto repair, and all sorts of things. Ans speaking of price per pound, how much a pound would cigarettes cost? A pack of those doesn't weigh much and look how much those cost and a carton is very light too and costs a lot. Has anyone ever figured out what cigarettes cost per pound? When meat prices were going up they were saying meat cost more per pound than a Cadillac does. I think that was back in the 1970's. I think cigarettes were only 30 or 40 cents a pack then. In the 60's they were only 2.99 a carton but I quit smoking them in 1969 so I was smart and saved a lot of money.
