Can be, it all depends on the owner. They were widely considered good nannydogs back in the early twentieth century because they were fiercely loyal and no one would dare abduct a ***** with them around.

Remember the old ********'s show the little rascals, the dog with the ring around one eye (Petey) was a pit bull.

As with any big dog breed, they can be. But raised with enough love, education and training they are the most loving, loyal breed out there.

Any dog can be, depends on the temperament. If they're tormented by ******** they have a limit like anyone else. Often, it's the owners who need to be properly trained on how to handle a dog.

At least I'm pretty sure it was a pit bull, a younger one..but a pit bull nine the less. Ive been around well trained passive/friendly pit bulls, and I've also been around those whose owners didn't know how to take the alpha role and didn't train them properly and their dogs were a little scared/jumpy and unpredictable as a result.

I do like pit bulls myself, in fact I took one in a few years back after my scumbag neighbor abandoned when he moved, I had a **** time finding a home for her as friendly as she was just because she was a pitbull about 9 or 10 months old approx. One buddy in Louisville said he have to buy an additional home owner ins policy to be compliant to city laws/ordinances.

Ask if you'd leave one alone in the same room with an infant or young *****. Many breeds could be put in this category but this breed gets all the news.

That is because most people cannot actually identify a pit-bull. So most large dog attacks get lumped into "pit-bull". Personally mine is a sweetheart couch potato and rather useless as a guard dog.

It is not the Dog themselves that are more violent. But how they are Trained. Any animal has a natural degree of violence. But I excessive violence is either because of a disease, or because of training. I have seen plenty of different types of dogs (pitbulls included) that if they are raised to be dogs, then that is all that they are ...... dogs. But if people train the animal to be excessively aggressive, then the animal is excessively aggressive.

Pit Bulls are horrible dogs if not trained properly.

Most dogs can be dangerous, but with good owners all dogs can be great pets and companions, my rotty was the most un dangerous dog you could meet, then she got attacked by German shepherds, staffies and a few different types of breed, they never hurt her physically but now she growls at every dog that she don't know and sometimes pins them down but never bites them...so for various reasons and things that happen ..dogs can change...

I have a dalmation, great dane and pit bull....they are the worst guard dogs ever!!! If you show up with some belly rubs and dog treat, they'd let you move in. Just don't threaten to hit anyone, especially ******** - they are all very protective of ********.

Exactly, my rotty would give them a back up over the wall....while wagging his tail.....

It depends upon how they are raised. Most are very gentle, loving and loyal pets.

Considering their physical strength and bite power they certainly can be dangerous if raised the wrong way. They can also be tame babies if raised properly.

Only if raised by bad owners..have seen many at shelter..very gentle and quiet if treated right.

I like big, gentle dogs like Bernese Mountain Dogs and Newfoundlands. I have no use for dogs that bite, and I certainly do not need a guard dog because anyone who takes up as much space as me is not about to be threatened. If I were Mickey Rooney, I probably would like a pit bull, but I am not Mickey Rooney.

It's the owners who make them that way.

In my experience they are a nervous breed and need a lot of socializing as pups and youngsters. They are great when socialized. If not they can be dangerous.
All dogs can.

Pits enjoy a very poor record - they have a very high record of serious bites and attacks according to the firms tasked with keeping these records. Are some sweet - yes, of course and people who have them defend them.

'When a pit bull attacks, the injury inflicted may be catastrophic. First responders, such as police officers and firefighters, understand this as do members of the media, who are quick to report these attacks. Ongoing social tension also keeps pit bulls in the news. The pit bull problem is nearly 30-years old. In this time, most lawmakers have been "too afraid" to take breed-specific action to correct the problem. Due to this failure, horrific maulings continue to make headlines.
About half of all media reports regarding pit bulls involve police officers shooting dangerous pit bulls in the line of duty. Since the late 1970's pit bulls have been used extensively in criminal operations for drug dealers, gang members and other violent offenders. The pit bull terrier is the breed of choice for criminals. This choice is directly linked to the pit bull's selectively bred traits of robust jaw strength, a deadly bite style, tenacity (gameness) and a high tolerance to pain.'

Personally, I would not have one

No. But people who are thinking of acquiring this particular breed would do well to first acquaint themselves with this breeds' unique peculiarities.
