I took French for roughly six years. Granted, I ***** up with a C, and I barely learned the basics...But I can still speak French, just not fluently~

I'd rather brush up on my Spanish than be reintroduced to French - and I'd prefer Italian to either of them.

Depends on where you are. In Southern/Western U.S. or Latin America, definitely Spanish. In Canada or Northern Europe, gotta be French. And there are former French colonies in numerous places like Senegal, Vietnam, etc..

I worked at a public high school that was about 90% Hispanic. The kiddos didn't have much choice in the classes that they took and, somehow, about a third of them ***** up in Spanish class in order to satisfy their "second" language credit.

Honestly, I'm not keen on any of the Romance languages. I prefer Germanic and central Semitic languages.

Spanish is basically corrupt vulgar Latin.
I'm less informed of the origins of French, but the pronunciation is very weird.

(Granted, English and German are corrupt proto west Germanic, or even proto Germanic, but we don't have a good understanding of what that was, unlike classical Latin.)

I have some interest in French because of the strong influence Norman had on the English language starting in 1066. However, I prefer the Germanic component in English. I somewhat resent the Norman/French influence for badly corrupting English, particularly English spelling. Several of my friends are learning French.

Spanish would be very useful and practical. It's one of the world's top three languages, and is a major language here in South Texas. About a third of the local digital terrestrial broadcast television channels are in Spanish. My mom's native language is Spanish.

French would not be my first choice. I could devote more time improving my German and Russian. The new language I would learn would be Lakota. Not Spanish I am sick of hearing every time I call somewhere to "oprima numero uno."

Spanish is more euphonious, and has a lot of interesting roots in our own language.

Could you please give examples of such roots? Most probably would derive from Latin, and would likely be shared with French.
Most of the Romance element in English would have come through the Norman conquest (starting in 1066), the ecclesiastical Latin of the Catholic Church, and also some Renaissance and scientific usage.

Spanish "vaquero", French "vacher", from Latin "vacca".
Chocolate entered English from Spanish, but it's origin is Nahuatl or Yucatec.
