The house in the picture is a house that is selling and is in the neighborhood in which I was raised. If I were to be back in that neighborhood and buy that house, I'd frankly lop off the top floor, the garage, and the balcony in the back.

Would you want a smaller house, though?

Just as many mini-mansions as mobile homes these days. Probably more mobile homes actually...

I myself was thinking of a mobile home someday, G-d willing, or (even moreso G-d willing) living on one of these:

kibbutz

Or not. Still too big (Incidentally, my mind is totally ***** about what a קיבוץ is now. I thought that a קיבוץ would look more like the picture below.):

residential biodome

residential ecodome

residential ecopod

(Of course, with multiple families and other people living in it, mind you.)

Or this:

(With way-smaller houses)

Meanwhile, I myself could use a house like this:

(Like that in particular)

Big houses are boss :3

But um... those houses aren't even big o.O

They look like normal houses to me... some though are on the small side ._.

That's because, IMO, we've been accultured to believe that big houses are actually small. Look at how, e.g., the Native Americans made it:

[Look at these as well!]

As for log cabins:

Look at batim shtetlach:

[Keep in mind that some of the bigger houses had extended families or more than one family living in them. Sometimes, other families lived upstairs.]

I need a house big enough for the stuff that's in it. This includes a bedroom, a kitchen and a dining room (preferably combined), a bathroom, a living room, a laundry room and a spare room. That is just for when I'm single though.

That's part of our problem, I think. As a culture, we are materialistic.

But being materialistic is fun! Why would I want to be... non-materialistic?

So... what's the problem? I rather be unhappy and rich than unhappy and poor.

As far as I can tell from TV shows and films, the houses are large enough for five or six more Hispanics.

some are....I say when just two people are living in a 3, 4, 5 bedroom house that is over 2200 sq ft....that's kind of an overkill

I can see how you would say that, coming from California. My wife and i can't wait till our kids move out and we'll have our 3000+ square foot house all to ourselves. We have a media room, art room, I have a large office/study with a computer room for equipment.

But we live in Texas and it cost around $200K to have this house custom built back in the 90s. I expect you can't get a decent apartment for that where you are.

To each his own.
