The government needs some influence on some parts. If you privatize everything, the hospitals wouldnt be able to keep up. The police enforcement, the ambulance, the firefighters organisations would be shut down fast. Also, if you privatize everything, so including infrastructure, there would be a big big mess. Believe me.

The crisis in Holland we have now, is saved by the government taking over the Rabobank and ABN AMBRO banks. If they didnt, almost the total population of holland wouldnt have a bank account. Holland would be like greece these days.

Now, explain to me why it would be better to privatize everything? Only bad thing happen out of that.

...especially for the middle class. The poor don't have money in the first place and the rich have loopholes galore.

We are in dire need of reforming and cutting back our budget. It's too bad it political suicide to even suggest that.

Why not have the wealthy pay more than the rest... oh wait I forgot the people in power are wealthy and they don't want to be fair to the rest of the population

Privatize everything. People can kick in on the services they use and everything unnecessary will just disappear.

Too high, I went from being able to afford getting extra stuff last year, to barley scraping by this year. Every thing has gone up in the last 2 years except my wages.
(and I do mean what the state and federal take out of me)

We should not be taxed at all. The only reason for taxes was if we were at war. The last time we were attacked was by our own government when they knocked down the twin towers. Now that was an act of war against the American people by our own government. Why are we not fighting that war????? Then stop taxing us.

WHAT? didnt you have basic economics? IF the tax was disabled, the government wouldnt get an income. Infrastructure, war supplies, education, and all other things would be shut down immediately. We would be in a big mess.

At the federal level, it is to high for the lower and middle incomes, and too low for that upper 1%. At the state and local levels, it is dismal for the lower and middle classes.

Lower incomes pay NO FEDERAL INCOME TAX. In fact, many get what is called an "earned income credit." Free extra income paid for by the people who do pay FedTax. The top ten percent of income earners already pay 70% of the FedTax burden. I don't know why you hold the point of view that you do but I think you are wrong. We are all people who use the services provided and all receive protections of fire, police and armed forces. I believe we should all pay the same instead of some riding on the backs of others.

Cut back spending and our taxes will go down.

that is, of course, under the idea that the politicians won't see that money as a potential raise for doing such a great job cutting spending...

That is just a lie.

Taxes and inflation are both increasing at a rate beyond wage increases. It's getting ****** and ****** for the middle class (what remains of them) to keep up and the lower class to simply get a foothold.

Because taxes are not ******** fairly in relation to income amount, they are too high for most Americans. Wealthy people are allowed to find loopholes which allow them to pay lower taxes than middle income taxpayers. This is unfair. Also, prodigious amounts of tax money are wasted, and the consequent need for higher taxes is unfair.

It's not that bad. It could be tweaked a little. The income brackets for tax-rates should be scaled up a little(a single person that only has 40k taxable shouldn't be in the 25% tax bracket) and capital gains should be taxed higher.

*for people in the top 1%
Too high for people in the 2% to 10% category -- earning 36% of the wealth and paying 62% of the taxes.
The only people who might be paying what they should are the bottom 80% -- 7% of the wealth and 7% of the taxes.

should be a flat tax rate.

Yes, it should be a flat tax rate. 30% on the purchase of all new goods and services. 0% up to the poverty level. 0% on income 0% business tax. It's called the Fair Tax.

When using the same calculation method as the income tax it's 23%. Apples to apples.

No friggin way. How is that fair? People with low incomes that spend every dime they make would pay tax on 100% of their income while people with high paying jobs that saved most of their money would not. If they passed that law I'd never shop in a store again.

Do you know how to read? If you do, then read this "on the purchase of all ***new*** goods and services. ****0% up to the poverty level. 0% on income****"

Workers would have their WHOLE paycheck, not just the after taxes part they have to deal with now.

It's a progressive sales tax. NO one would pay a penny in tax up to the poverty level. That means someone who spends at say double the poverty level would pay 30% on 1/2 their spending, or 15% which is ******** they bought only NEW goods/services. If they bought some USED goods then that would reduce their taxes paid.

Also, "0% business tax." means that there would be zero hidden taxes. The price of products/services would drop as they would no longer have to pass along taxes that they no longer pay. It is proven that in a competitive environment, reduced costs always equate to reduced prices.

They are too high period. We need to abolish the IRS and either go to a flat tax or a fair tax. In short, fair tax no taxes coming out of your pay and you pay tax on what you consume. Flat tax, everyone pays the same out of their income -17% across the board.

Fair tax abolishes the IRS, flat tax would not require the monster of a government albatross that we have now.

Alright you abolished the IRS and now you have a flat tax..... Who collects it and who arrests tax dodgers?

I recommend taxing the top 5% at a higher rate. I also recommend reducing the tax burden on the poor and the working poor. Overall, I would leave taxes on the Middle Class where they are. You can't fund government by gutting all of the tax sources. That's republican mularkey. We need more socialism and less reaganomics (lowercase). The social class of billionaires does not need to exist. That wealth can be put to good use elsewhere. Also, we need to go after the criminal class of offshore tax dodgers. People like Rupert Murdoch need to return what they have stolen from society. Overall, I prefer a progressive income tax and a very low sales tax. Sales taxes are regressive and disproportionately hurt the poor. Politicians should address the needs of the poor first, middle class second and upper class last, billionaire class never.

As a business owner, I feel I AND other business owners should be required to pay a higher percentage of my AND their income to taxes. If the taxes are fair (competitive), I would not mind paying more. If the average person knew how little of our gross income goes to taxes, they would demand tax reform en masse.

Good for you. (Sarcasm) I think you are a paid, Democrat, blogger. Tell that to all the business owners who have had to close their doors.

Taxes are too high especially for the 1% because the government is spending too much. Way too much. They have their hands in everything. It's not constitutional. The 10th amendment limits the Federal government to only powers that are delineated in the constitution and all others fall to the states.

I agree with Kara. If you were a real business owner you would know that businesses don't pay taxes, they only collect taxes from their customers as a hidden tax. If taxes are raised 1% then (price of product is raised/services are lowered) to compensate for that 1%.

The solution is a progressive national sales tax replacing ALL federal taxes. 30% on the purchase of all new goods and services. 0% up to the poverty level. 0% on income 0% business tax. It's called the Fair Tax.
