My daughter is 25, I spent 14K turning the basement into a one BR apartment. Kids don't have a chance to get their wheels spinning in this economy before they are crushed by the cost of living. She pays a modest rent and is able to concentrate on her career rather than if shes going to eat..

There is a BIG difference between people like you who need a hand UP while doing your best, and those with their hand OUT while doing nothing at all.
All I can do is wish you the best.

I'm 25 too, my husband and I have two boys under the age of 2. We planned one son when we thought we were ready, and the second was a surprise. My husband lost his steady job, and now he is working two part time jobs, hoping to go full time at one of them...

It shouldn't be this **** to find a full time job with benefits and be able to survive on our own.

Also- we are both in school. So eventually that will pay off, but the here and now is no fun.

Not the best situation but it seems to be the way many have chosen to go ... for many reasons.

Yeah, That would not happen. Once he dropped out, He would have been booted out. 46 How can you leech for that long and still look at yourself in the mirror?
At 46 If I were your Brother/Sister, I would be afraid of the man. When is he going snap and believes he deserves more and does the unspeakable?

I can agree to that, she has a plan to get out on her own and is taking steps towards that *** goal.

On the other hand my nephew lives in the basement suite my brother had built, dropped out of school works at a medium rate job, Is forty six now and has no plans to change,

I agree with you to a point. But I thought about it and for *** sake you can't even get free TV anymore. We don't get a digital signal in this area so you are forced to pay for trash TV. Then there is also internet, It is a must have for anyone who is in school. Plus the cost of rent for the dumpiest places are outrageous. I understand the reason, Property taxes in the granite state are going out of control. The cost of Groceries is mind boggling. So I made an investment in my daughters future. She pays rent, electric and cable(Reduced of course).
But it is giving her a chance to save. She is doing a great job at it. She is advancing in the company where she works. When the time comes she will move on with a foundation under her rather than quicksand

My brothers are 30+ and still living with mum and me. .-. But it seems a lot of college kids move back home because of money issues and can't afford an apartment/flat.
