I've never really paid attention before, but lately I have noticed there are quite a few people afraid to ride an elevator and will opt for the stairs, even when it is obviously inconvenient to do so. Is it because they're afraid of getting stuck or trapped, squashed by the door, the cable snapping. I've heard some say that the elevator is too fast and scares them. You tell me, I have no idea.

There's a difference between politeness and sarcasm. It sounded a lot like sarcasm. If it wasn't, i apologize for the false accusation.

Sarcasm runs like a mad river in life and politeness is rare. I understand.

Let's say you went driving one night, and you're driving safely. Little did you know, there was a drunk driver behind you. You make it to the stop light, and you stop like your supposed to. And the drunk crashes into your car, causing you serious injuries and almost killed you. Would you seriously sit there and say that's the way your made life? Or would you say that's Murphy's Law? Do you even know what Murphy's Law is to begin with? Or let's say an earthquake happens and it destroys your house, did you make it happen in your life?

I thought we were talking about elevators, my mistake.

dont know what this crack murphys law is, but im sick of reading on these different philosiphers when i have my own philosiphy, so i dont care about his law

fine, ill have to be 100% legit with you:

*most humans are usually in charge of their life*

that is the real answer of life

so we have more control than not
and i didnt say 'in charge of thier house' lol

like 90%+ of the time, a healthy, well trained (martial arts) human can control the situations that happen to them

Life is random, natural disasters happen in LIFE. Which people have no control of. Anything that can go wrong will go wrong. Did you choose to be born, or just did it happen? Are you in charge of everything that happens in the government? Are you in charge if a car hits you because of a drunk driver even if you was driving safely? Can you walk on water? Or make a tree grow in one day? If you answer yes to all these questions, you're crazy. If you answer no, than apparently life isn't what you make it.

of course people have almost no control of natural disasters
(except government *cough HAARP cough*)

but we have control of ourselves, and most of what happens in our usual lifetime, im done with you if you cannot understand this truth

Having control of yourself, and having control of your life two differant things.

And like elevators can't be a life and death situation? We was, learn how to take an example.

Fear is not always controlled, our stimuli reacts to certain situations that sets off the adrenaline in a life and death situation, AKA The Defense Mechanism. Some people can't always control themselves such as people with tourettes, and OCD and whatever else that is out there. Not only that, they are people who would love to get out of a dictatorial country, such as the North Korea. They try to escape North Korea, and most of the time get captured before they can. If they had control of what goes on in their lives, they would have NO problem escaping WHATSOEVER.

Many take stairs so they won't have to wait or put up with slow pokes. I am not afraid of elevators but I take stairs often especially at a hospital, just so I am not getting close to smelly sick people

I wasn't always afraid of elevators, i use to take them all the time. Until i went to this apartment building that had an elevator, and i got stuck in it for 2 minutes. Didn't know that i had issues, it had no danger sign on it whatsoever. Until after i got out of the elevator than all the sudden people started to say, i wouldn't take that elevator if i was you. So much for the heads up. Every since than, I've had nightmares about being in an elevator.

I'm not afraid, but not real excited about them. I had a close friend fall 7 stories in one and broke both his legs, also I was on one at the VA hospital and it started jumping between 7th and 8th floor. The nurse on their with me was more scared than I was, and she worked there, I was just visiting, quite an experience...

The wires snapping, and being stuck in the elevator.

The "perfect life" doesn't exist in this realm. I guess it's a matter of what you allow to control you, like with fear.

If the wires snapped it would plummet to the bottom. More than likely injuries sustained would keep you there (if you survive). I'll admit, on the ones where the door hesitates longer than most to open, it's a bit unnerving. But if they didn't open, you just deal & figure a way out.

IF YOU SURVIVE. But who would want to be live disabled the rest of their life, and have to deal with pain?
0 votes
by
I'm disabled and deal with pain on a daily basis. Life goes on & is as good as you make it, able bodied or non.
0 votes
by
But still, did you look forward to being disabled and being in pain? And life is not what you make it. Your only choice is how you react.

No one (with sanity) looks forward to bad things happening. You hope for the best, prepare for the worst.

And if something bad can happen it probably will, and it's not always by choice.

I think nobody should have to apologize, or be ridiculed because of, fears they know are irrational and can't do anything about. They're so common we have a word for them: phobia. Most people have at least one. I never try to argue anyone out of theirs, but I try to accommodate/help when I can, like giving a claustrophobic person my aisle seat.
