That and there's tons of green everywhere. There are two main parts to the city, which are separated by a five minute drive through the interstate. One is smaller than the other and has more trees, while the other is larger but more spaced out. It's a very pretty environment. It's not bad as long as you ignore the crazy people representing the state.

Florida. Despite being in the deep south (and home to the zombie attack due to bath salts a few years back) I managed to move to the hippy liberal bastion of Florida: Gainseville. Out here all my friends are pro *** marriage, weed legalization, gun control, et cetera. It's rather fantastic.

Sounds like a place for me!

I was told once Florida is a great place to live, just stay on the coast!

I've been up and down the state on the coast and Orlando and Okeechobee.

Any truth? Native Floridians?

The city I live in is a one and a half hour (or two hour) drive to any of the beaches to the south, east, and west, so it isn't all that bad a drive from here. We probably get less rainfall than those along the coast, too, and there's less a threat of flooding during storms.

I mean the people in general. The coast is a lot of displaced New Yorkers. What about inland?

Just curious....... Maybe I'll retire down there, gettin' tired of the snow and taxes here!

The area is pretty good for when you want warm weather, no doubt about that.

Inland (where I'm at) is either southerners or those with what is considered the standard American accent. I haven't met too many New Yorkers.

I guess transplanted NY'ers opt for the beaches.

One summer during college I rode my bicycle down to Jacksonville from NY with my buddy.... Was a hot long summer but a lot of fun.

HAHA! I was a LOT younger then!

My brother lived in Jax then. He picked up and got a place in Key Largo... parks his boat in what he calls his front lawn. What a life!

Do boats get parked?

At our last house we pulled our boat into our backyard and just left it there until we went out onto lakes. As long as your house has the room for it, yeah, many people have boats, and this is just out here in the middle of Florida. I imagine there are boats plainly everywhere along the coasts.

I prefer the lakes. It's why I'm hesitant to move. NYS has some of the most beautiful lakes.... But they're only useful for boating 4 months out of the year...kind of a ******!

I get sea sick just thinking about the boating on the ocean!

I have lived in Pennsylvania, New York, Illinois, California, Oregon, and Arizona. The memorable thing about each was as follows, Western PA has the friendliest people, NY has the highest taxes, Illinois the most corrupt politics, California the best weather, Oregon the most dreary rainfall, and Oregon the freest state from left wing nut cases.

Well out here you can go out to the lakes anytime of the year, and they're massive lakes. Not as large as the Great Lakes, of course, but they're still sizable.
