Declawing a cat is like taking a human and cutting off the 1st joint of all their fingers..It leaves a cat defenseless, they also use their claws to pickup food. Why in **** would someone want to cripple a cat????

Yea this was over 6 months ago, I'm over it. But to answer you're question Cats usually can't get down from the trees. With that said I'm done.

Buy a cat condo. They don't need to be climbing trees. A tree is a hundred times more dangerous.

My family took care of a homeless cat before she died that was declawed. The poor girl was always at a disadvantage when she was in a fight.

Nope. My cats spend a lot of time outside and need to be able to defend themselves. One of them is also our little hunter and she would be lost if she didn't have her claws.

I wouldn't put my cat through that pain.

**** no! Declawing is cruel and evil!
declawing cruel evil

declawing cruel evil
My cats are indoor/outdoor, but even if they were strictly indoor I would NEVER declaw them. Declawing is painful for the cat and can cause many health issues. It can also cause spraying behavior. No matter how good you think you are at keeping your cat inside, cats are smart and can find ways outside. If your cat is declawed and manages to get out it could easily be killed without it's claws to defend itself.
Don't get a cat if you plan to torture it!

Thanks. I don't get how anyone can support such an inhumane procedure.
That picture makes me sad :(
My cat is currently laying on my chest right now...I can't imagine that ever happening to her :(

I think declawing a cat should be against the law. It is mutilation. I'd like to do the same thing to the cat owners who do that to their pets.

Here is what the other people on this thread said:

David (oYo): This is unbelievably cruel. Cats claws are an integral part of their body for fighting and climbing trees. Disgraceful!!

fairiefang -annoying fashio: **** no! Declawing is cruel and evil!

The only ignorant person here is the one who thinks animal mutilation is not painful.

My parents declawed her when she was still young. I didn't want them to do it then, and I wish that they had not. I was very angry when I found out that she had to be declawed due to furniture. She is very fearful of people and lacking claws does not make it easier on her. She was semi-feral when I found her living under my house. If she swipes at me I act as if she still has claws, and she definitely thinks that she still has them. Declawing cats weakens them and decreases the likelihood that they can survive if they escape the home. I sometimes wonder if her extreme fear is due to being declawed, but it's probably due to the fact that she was not properly socialized. It takes work to earn her trust, but now that I have it- she loves me enough not to get angry at me even after I gave her a flea bath.

I love my grumpy old cat so much. She has such an odd personality and can be very affectionate if given the opportunity. She's still a great cat without her claws. Declawing her was much better than having to get rid of her, and an unfriendly cat in a shelter is very likely to be humanely euthanized. I'm pretty certain that she would have had to go if she had not been declawed. I'll take a declawed cat over a dead cat any day!

Won't do it either, there is always the chance they will escape outside, then they will have no defense. I think it is cruel myself, i believe you shouldn't get a cat if you want it declawed!

I would declaw my cats if I had them. As with any surgery, there are right and wrong ways to do it. The history of declawing, again, like most surgeries, has a crappy past with lots of horrible after effects like infection getting out of control. In 3rd world countries, tons of bad surgical practices are sure to occur still today. With modern science and safe, clean procedures and after care, your cat will feel no more discomfort after being declawed then what is normal for post operation recovery. (I'm sure getting fixed didn't feel too good either, right?) Laser declawing has drastically minimized both recovery time and the amount of pain while recovering. Also the cat is still able to climb trees without claws and able to defend itself when threatened

Cats cannot climb without claws at all. That is how they grip the tree trunk to climb with. Without claws they cannot grip.

The surgery is an amputation of the *** of the toes and not simple procedure as you would like to think.

Trust me I've had cats that were declawed and they climbed just fine. And besides the cat shouldn't be climbing trees in the first place.

The surgery is no different than spaying or nuetering the cat.

The surgery is the amputation of the *** of the fingers of each paw and is hugely different than spaying or neutering. There are much more nerve ******* in the paws than in the stomach or the ******* than the finger tips.
