Apple's next big venture could be wearable technology, starting with a "smart watch." In a note released Wednesday, Gene Munster of Piper Jaffray said he expects Apple to jump into the wearable tech market some time in 2014 or beyond.

"We believe that wearable computers will ultimately be a major future trend," the note said. "Longer term (over the next 10+ years), wearable computers could eventually replace the iPhone and smartphones in general."

Maybe it won't be just another toy with a screen but a practical replacement for your wallet. It's on your wrist which it close to your hand. Obviously it would better suited for activating ATMS and gas pumps and unlocking doors when you touch them. You're right you don't need a "gadget" but what if it did something useful liked paid for your groceries without you fumbling for your debit card at self checkout. **** as I'm concerned it doesnt even need a screen. You only interface with it through your tablet or cell phone

In 1991 we needed a server just to hold one gigabyte of data. The **** drive alone cost a thousand dollars. I've got 16 gig on my keychain for 20 dollars now. This is why I'm in the IT field. You can start a business out practically thin air.

There are already dreams of implanting nanobytes?? into the blood stream, which can diagnose ailments, and then travel to the proper organs to effect a cure. Avoid all kinds of chancy drugs and possible surgery.

I have no doubt that we can have all these wonderful things in the future. I also have no doubt that politicians and insurance companies will so mess everything up that most peoplw will never benefit from it or afford it.

I can't help wonder how many patents are bought and squashed by major corps now. Students at Notre Dame invented an auto paint, that when mixed with regular paint, turns the car into a solar cell, without changing the look. A boon to electric cars.

my wallet is 3 cards and cash. I am not going to replace something that is not broke. My wrists are not broken I can turn the nob. I have a iphone so the power it can do is limitless and can do everything if I wanted it to do if that were needed.

30 years ago IBM said nobody would want to own a personal computer.

I don't think you see the irony in sneering at the folly of a new gadget while claiming that you own another gadget that you think has "unlimited power"

i never bought into the ipad. I won't buy into a watch by the same people that made my phone. Yes my phone can do everything and anything a phone is capable of doing

But you'll buy a phone made by the same people who made a computer.

I used to have a mac book pro. I loved that thing to death. It did everything I ever need and then some. I plan on building a hackintosh because I loved it so much. I also have a itouch that I never use since I got my phone. All a person realy needs is a computer your happy with and a phone that can let you pretty much take that computer with you.

Years ago I worked for a computerized tax corp. It had 6ft IBMs for about 30 ft; 4 girls collating and boxing punch cards, a dozen accountants checking them. A while ago I bought a Tax CD for $1 in a dollar store.

Chester A. Gould, call your lawyer! Steve Jobs has plagiarized you.

Though I have the perfect way to settle this: reboot the **** Tracy franchise, and have **** Tracy wear one of these babies.

i love new technology but,,, this device would be awkward to use... I'd be yanking it off my wrist .... since i own a smart phone I have pitched my wrist watch....needless, awkward and inconvenience....unless I strape it on under forearm.....and will it be like watches of old....readable size for men and too tiny to see for women?... And there are strapes now made so you can strape an iPhone to your upper arm....why not just a strape to wear smartphone on inner forearm.....so no big deal really....only newd a wrist strape for your smartphone..

It would be nice to wear a computer that very well could keep track of your voice, and follow your commands only.

With a smart phone always within reach, a tablet by my chair and Kindle with my casual reading I almost feel like I am wearing computers already. Lets see what the future brings before ever saying nay.

No, because within the next five minutes after I buy and/or receive it, it's gonna be either:
A. In my dog's digestive tracks, with me in hysterics.
Dos. Vanished from the face of the earth.
Or, Perhaps: Just found, under my foot, In a guessable condition....

At the same time, I could care less. A smartphone, if anything, might be just right for what I do with my time.

Doesn't the iPod nano already count as a wearble computer?

If it helped me do my job better, absolutely!
I would use it in my car.
If it were a bit more feminine I would wear it regularly.

I don't even wear a watch now so I don't think that would change with wearble tech. I'm happy with toting around my appliances.
